Funerals

Honoring the Life of a Loved One in the Catholic Faith

With deepest sympathy, we extend our heartfelt condolences to you and your family. During this difficult time, St. Elizabeth Parish is here to accompany you with prayer, compassion, and pastoral care as you honor your loved one through the sacred rites of the Catholic Church.

"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
— Psalm 34:18

Our parish community recognizes the right of every Catholic to receive a Christian Funeral. The Funeral Mass is the Church's prayer of thanksgiving for the gift of life, entrusting the deceased to God's loving mercy while offering comfort and hope to those who mourn.

Planning a Funeral

Our parish staff and Consolation Ministry are available to guide you through every step of planning the funeral liturgy.

Families will receive assistance in selecting:

  • Scripture readings
  • Responsorial Psalm
  • Hymns and sacred music
  • General Intercessions
  • Funeral Mass planning
  • Optional Words of Remembrance

Catholic family members or friends are welcome to proclaim the Scripture readings during the Funeral Mass if they feel comfortable doing so.

When appropriate, a parish representative may also visit the funeral home to pray with the family prior to the Funeral Mass.

Eligibility

Funeral services at St. Elizabeth Parish are available for:

  • Registered parishioners and their immediate family
  • Non-registered individuals, with approval from the Pastor

If you are unsure about eligibility, please contact the parish office. We are happy to assist you.

Funeral Schedule

All funeral arrangements must be coordinated through the parish office.

  • Funeral Masses are generally celebrated Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10:00 AM.
  • Funeral Masses are not scheduled on Thursdays, Saturdays, or Sundays due to the parish liturgical schedule.
  • Visitation in the church may begin as early as 8:15 a.m.
    • Families may choose a private visitation, a public visitation, or a private visitation followed by a public visitation prior to the Funeral Mass.Funeral services cannot be scheduled around the parish's 12:00 PM daily Mass.
  • Whenever possible, funeral arrangements should be made at least one month in advance.
    • Please note that the parish office appreciates as much advance notice as possible when scheduling funeral services. Clergy assignments are made based on the priests' availability and schedules.
  • If your family wishes to share a eulogy, it must be given before the Funeral Mass begins. Please allow enough time before Mass for the eulogy to be completed.
    • For example, if the Funeral Mass begins at 10:00 a.m. and the eulogy is expected to last approximately 15 minutes, it should begin at 9:45 a.m.
  • Burial should be scheduled within approximately one hour following the Funeral Mass to ensure a smooth transition to the Rite of Committal.
